How to Upgrade to TiVo Experience 4?

The Experience 4 Upgrade App is used to upgrade a compatible DVR on TiVo Experience 3 to the latest user interface

PLEASE NOTE:  On January 19th, any set-top box not yet upgraded will automatically be pushed to Experience 4.

To begin, the main TiVo box will need to be upgraded first followed by any TiVo minis.  To perform the upgrade you can follow the steps on your TiVo or use the instructions below:

Upgrading your main TiVo T6 box

  1. From TiVo Central, select Apps. Choose Get New Experience to launch the upgrade app

  1. After choosing Get New Experience, the main screen of the TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App will appear.

 Choose Upgrade now on the TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App main screen.

 

On this screen, you will have three choices:

  • Watch Video: Plays the Welcome to the TiVo Experience video. At the end of the video, you will have the option to replay the video or return to the main screen.
  • Upgrade now: This continues with the upgrade and takes you to the Remote Compatibility screen.
  • Don’t upgrade now: Exits you from the TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App main screen and returns to the screen where the app was launched from.

Choose Upgrade now to upgrade to TiVo Experience 4

 

  1. After choosing Upgrade now, the Remote Compatibility screen will appear.

Choose Continue to upgrade from the Remote Compatibility screen to proceed with the upgrade.

 

The Remote Compatibility screen provides you with two choices:

  • Continue to upgrade:This proceeds with the upgrade and takes you to the Confirm Upgrade Screen.
  • Cancel upgrade:This takes you to the previous screen.

Choose Continue to upgrade to proceed with the upgrade.

 

  1. After confirming the upgrade, the Upgrade in Progress screen will appear. Once the upgrade has completed, the app will close automatically and a connection to the service is initiated.

Press THUMBS UP three times and then press ENTER on the Confirm Upgrade Screen to continue.

Before continuing with the upgrade, the Confirm Upgrade screen will appear.Press THUMBS UP three times then press ENTER on the remote to confirm and continue with the upgrade.
Note:
 Once you upgrade, you cannot return to the current user interface.

 

  1. After confirming the upgrade, the Upgrade in Progress screen will appear. Once the upgrade has completed, the app will close automatically and a connection to the service is initiated.

  1. It may take a couple of minutes to successfully upgrade to TiVo Experience 4. Once the process is complete, your TiVo will need to be restarted to complete the process. Press SELECTto continue with the upgrade and exit the service connection screen.

Your TiVo will need to restart after completing the connection to the TiVo service.

 

  1. Pressing SELECT on the remote takes you back to TiVo Central.

Note: Your TiVo DVR is scheduled to restart early in the morning, at which time the DVR will automatically restart with the TiVo Experience 4 user interface. If you want to use TiVo Experience 4 immediately, proceed to step 8.

 

  1. Restart your TiVo DVR. From TiVo Central, choose Settings & Messages > Help > Restart Box.

Press THUMBS DOWN three times then press ENTER to restart your TiVo DVR.

 

  1. Once your TiVo DVR restarts, it will prepare the update and start TiVo Experience 4.

How to Upgrade a TiVo Mini to TiVo Experience 4

The TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App will not be visible as a selectable app on your TiVo Mini. When the host DVR   upgrades to TiVo Experience 4, your TiVo Mini devices that are connected to the host will detect the upgrade and   the TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App will automatically appear on the TiVo Mini.  If there is a TiVo Experience 3 DVR on the network, you can have the TiVo Mini connect to the TiVo Experience 3   DVR as its host so that TiVo Mini remains on TiVo   Experience 3. If no host DVRs with TiVo Experience 3 are  available, the TiVo Mini must upgrade to TiVo Experience 4.

  1. After connecting your existing TiVo Mini to an existing TiVo Experience 4 host, the “Upgrade your TiVo Mini Screen” is displayed.

Choose Upgrade now on the TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App main screen to upgrade your TiVo Mini.

 

The TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App will keep appearing on the TiVo Mini until one of the choices is selected:

  • Upgrade now: This continues with the upgrade and takes you to the Remote Compatibility screen.
  • Choose a different host DVR: This appears when multiple host DVRs are available on the network. When you choose this option, you will be presented with list of DVRs on the network to connect to.

Note: The TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App opens during Guided Setup to the Update in Progress screen on new TiVo Minis connecting to a TiVo Experience 4 host.

Choose Upgrade now to upgrade your TiVo Mini to TiVo Experience 4.

  1. After choosing the Upgrade now option, the Remote Compatibility screen will appear.

Choose Continue to upgrade from the Remote Compatibility screen to proceed with the upgrade.

 

This screen provides you with two choices:

  • Continue to upgrade: This proceeds with the upgrade and takes you to the Confirm Upgrade screen.
  • Cancel upgrade: This takes you to the previous screen.

Choose Continue to upgrade to proceed with the upgrade.

  1. After the Remote Compatibility screenthe Confirm Upgrade screen will appear.

Press THUMBS UP three times and then press ENTER on the Confirm Upgrade Screen to continue.

 

  1. After confirming the upgrade, the Upgrade in Progress screen will appear. Once the upgrade is complete, the TiVo Mini will restart automatically.

The Upgrade in Progress screen appears, Your TiVo Mini will automatically restart while on this screen.

 

  1. It may take a couple of minutes to successfully upgrade your TiVo Mini to TiVo Experience 4. Once the process is complete, your TiVo Mini will restart automatically.
  2. Once your TiVo Mini restarts, it will prepare the update and start TiVo Experience 4.

 

Troubleshooting

If an error is detected prior to the restart, the Upgrade Error screen is displayed.

The TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App will not be visible as a selectable app on your TiVo Mini. When the host DVR   upgrades to TiVo Experience 4, your TiVo Mini devices that are connected to the host will detect the upgrade and   the TiVo Experience 4 Upgrade App will automatically appear on the TiVo Mini.

If there is a TiVo Experience 3 DVR on the network, you can have the TiVo Mini connect to the TiVo Experience 3   DVR as its host so that TiVo Mini remains on TiVo Experience 3. If no host DVRs with TiVo Experience 3 are   available, the TiVo Mini must upgrade to TiVo Experience 4.

  1. After connecting your existing TiVo Mini to an existing TiVo Experience 4 host, the “Upgrade your TiVo Mini Screen” is displayed.

The Upgrade Error screen appears, if you continue to see the error, verify you have a stable Internet connection.

 

Try Again: This will initiate the upgrade process and the Upgrade in Progress screen will appear. If you are unable to proceed with the upgrade, verify that you have a stable internet connection and repeat the steps above to upgrade to TiVo Experience 4.

Troubleshoot your network connection: Exits the app and displays the Network Connection help screen.

Note: In order to successfully upgrade to TiVo Experience 4, a stable internet connection is required.

If the TiVo Mini is unable to find the host DVR after upgrading to TiVo Experience 4, power cycle the network by unplugging your modem and router then waiting 10 seconds and then plugging them back in.
